Meeting Karolänn Bapté Traversac: craftswoman in pursuit of authenticity

In 2017, Karolänn Bapté Traversac left her job to join a decorative painting school, where she honed her skills and delved into the intricacies of this craft. She then launched Jolie M’Home, with the “M” paying tribute to her grandfather Michel, a talented handyman. To offer beauty enthusiasts a chance to step into her world, Karolänn created Bleu Wisteria, a charming holiday home in the Gard, where exquisite materials and vibrant colors take center stage.

Karolänn, could you introduce yourself and share your journey leading up to the creation of Jolie M’Home?

Karolänn: My journey is one of passion and authenticity. In 2017, driven by a desire for freedom and excellence, I left a permanent position at a large company to enroll in a decorative painting school. There, I honed my skills and immersed myself in the nuances of this artisanal craft, eventually launching Jolie M’Home. While my diploma enriched my technical knowledge, it’s my deep connection to materials and inspiring encounters with fellow artisans that truly shaped my art. As a pioneer, I established myself as a female textural artist on social media, showcasing the raw beauty of materials I cherish.

This journey has resonated with a growing community of over 90,000 followers, drawn to my dedication to craftsmanship. My work now crosses borders, earning recognition for its authenticity, determination, generosity, and professionalism. Through sharing my expertise with women seeking a fresh start, I’ve created a network of specialized applicators, fostering collaboration and opening new doors for creative minds. My passion has become a catalyst for others, inspiring a broader appreciation for the art of decorative finishes.

Where do you find inspiration for creating new shades?

In your view, how do polished concrete and lime influence the atmosphere of an interior?

Karolänn: My inspiration for new shades comes from everything around me, especially nature. I love the colors of autumn, with leaves transitioning from green to deep reds and oranges. Old stones also fascinate me—their gray and brown tones, weathered by time, seem to carry countless stories.

For my lime plasters, I enjoy working with earth pigments. Natural pigments have an unpredictable quality, and there’s always a touch of magic and surprise in how the finish dries. Each color I create feels like a piece of nature, infused with emotion.

Karolänn: Polished concrete and lime bring a sense of authenticity and character to interiors, reminiscent of homes from the past. These materials possess a raw, natural quality that evokes a deep connection to history. Polished concrete stands out with its intriguing texture, captivating the eye and inviting touch, while lime provides a softness that allows walls to breathe. Its subtle variations in color add warmth, giving each room a unique and welcoming atmosphere.

Together, these materials create spaces that feel both enveloping and comfortable, fostering a sense of well-being. It’s as if each wall tells a story, imbuing the home with the timeless charm and character of old-world houses.

How did the idea of creating a vacation home come to you?

Karolänn: It happened completely by chance! Seven years ago, my husband, our children, and I stumbled upon the Gard region, and it was love at first sight. Tourism here feels so different from the Mediterranean where I grew up: everything is calm and unpretentious, with breathtaking landscapes, charming stone villages, a scorching sun, and refreshing rivers. I quickly started dreaming of living here, but with our jobs, it wasn’t something we could pursue right away. Out of curiosity, my husband began browsing real estate listings, and that’s when he came across this little village house—perfect in its imperfections.

Without even visiting, I just knew it would be ours. It was a true love affair. Owning a second home just for ourselves wasn’t feasible, so we decided to transform it into a vacation rental. The income would help finance it, allowing us to bring our dream to life. Now, it’s a warm, welcoming space not just for our family and friends, but also for our guests and anyone curious about the Jolie M’Home universe.

How did you envision Bleu Wisteria?

Karolänn: I envisioned this house as a true sanctuary—a timeless space where you can recharge, and where the only thing that matters is the presence of the people around you. My goal was to create a home that is both comfortable and welcoming, yet easy to live in. It was important to me to combine modern comforts with the charm and soul of old houses. This house also serves as a living showroom for Jolie M’Home, showcasing the materials I hold dear. Warm, authentic lime finishes, polished concrete with its contemporary nuances, decorative plasters that add an artistic flair, and frescoes that bring the walls to life—all reflect my craft and passion.

I carefully sourced much of the decor to give the impression that it has always been here, each piece telling its own story and adding to the house’s unique atmosphere. In essence, this space is a reflection of my passions and inspirations—a place to gather, relax, and savor the beauty of life’s simple pleasures. It’s a home where time seems to stand still, perfect for creating lasting memories with family and friends.

What do you think makes the house perfect for a vacation?

Karolänn: Its simplicity and the laid-back atmosphere it exudes leave no one indifferent. Its perfect location, between the Ardèche and the Cévennes, offers an ideal setting to enjoy breathtaking landscapes and outdoor activities. But above all, what makes it perfect for a vacation is the love we’ve put into bringing it back to life, creating an unparalleled atmosphere. Here, every moment becomes a precious memory.
