The façade of Villa Benkemoun.

The façade of Villa Benkemoun.

Once a private residence, Villa Benkemoun now opens its doors to up to 12 guests, offering a one-hectare estate complete with a swimming pool. Recognized as “20th Century Heritage” by the Ministry of Culture, this remarkable villa is a treasure for architecture enthusiasts. Designed by Émile Sala, who embraced creative freedom while collaborating closely with the owners, the house reflects a deeply personal and family-focused vision of architectural design.

Taking inspiration from Le Corbusier, Émile Sala favored soft curves over rigid lines, creating a design that blends seamlessly with the surrounding garden. Some rooms are circular, others elliptical or Y-shaped, while features such as the dovecote-like towers, traditional plasterwork, and southern orientation pay homage to the villa’s Provençal roots. The result is a tranquil atmosphere of freedom, ideal for savoring the beauty of time’s gentle passage.

The architect didn’t stop there—he also designed the neighboring property, Villa Bank. This white structure, with its unique curves and volumes, was listed as “20th Century Heritage” by the Ministry of Culture in 2012. Considered one of Sala’s most striking works, it stands as a masterpiece of his maturity. Avant-garde yet seamlessly integrated into its surroundings, Villa Bank makes a lasting impression. Fully renovated in 2018, this example of 1970s modernist architecture now provides the perfect vacation setting for up to ten guests with a love for art and design.

The rooftop, meanwhile, is the ultimate spot for a lively evening with stunning views over the city.

Built in the 1970s, the villa has been completely renovated by Pierre-Antoine Bonamour, founder of PAB Architecture studio. The architect reimagined the entire space to maximize natural light and enhance the sea views, enlarging openings—some designed as portholes—to create a truly unique setting. The result: an ambiance that evokes the feeling of living aboard a ship. When it comes to materials, the architect embraced a minimalist and raw aesthetic: white walls, polished concrete throughout most rooms, and terracotta tiles—a nod to Provence—featured on one of the terraces, the kitchen, and part of the living room.
