The Goudes neighborhood (8th arrondissement)
A vacation in Marseille’s own fishing village
Just 20 minutes from downtown Marseille, you’ll find yourself in the charming fishing village of Les Goudes, where time seems to slow down. Tourists and locals alike bask in the sun, savoring ice cream or a glass of pastis. The village’s signature renovated fishermen’s cabins offer travelers a cozy retreat for their holiday stays. Design enthusiasts will love Goudes Mood, a cabin meticulously decorated with an eye for style, making it a visual delight. For a different vibe, The Cabanon des Goudes offers a compact, seaside escape—an extra-small take on Marseille’s classic coastal homes, brought to life by the creative duo from WEAREMB studio.
Welcome to Les Goudes, where life is good.

Like the rest of Marseille, Les Goudes is brimming with charming spots to unwind. The Tuba Club is a standout, known for its rooftop Bikini bar and iconic yellow-striped loungers set on the rocks. Here, you can savor fresh fish and seafood dishes while perched above the Mediterranean. For a more traditional experience, head to L’Auberge du Corsaire – Chez Paul, where the famous bouillabaisse pairs perfectly with the picturesque port views. If a picnic vibe is more your style, stop by La Boissonnerie for a refreshing ice cream or a brioche bun filled with chef Cécilia Bonacchi’s daily creations. After a day of sunbathing at the Calanque de Callelongue, wrap up with a visit to 20,000 Lieues, a local pub where you can mingle with the regulars and catch the sunset over the sea.
Bompard and Endoume Neighborhoods (7th arrondissement)
A stay with a view in Marseille
Nestled along the Corniche Kennedy, Villa Medjé, a charming candy-colored house from the 20th century, offers breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. This “dream grandmother’s house,” completely renovated and tucked between plane trees and umbrella pines, is as delightful as it is well-located. The owner, Pénélope, knows Marseille like the back of her hand and shares her favorite spots with passing guests. Just a ten-minute walk from the villa, you’ll find everything you need! A great wine shop, Mademoiselle Wine, a sunny cheese shop, La Meulerie, a cheerful coffee shop, Boujou Coffee, and buffalo milk ice cream at Loulou Glacier… all perfect for recharging before a swim, with the sea only 100 meters away! It will take more than one summer at Villa Medjé to uncover all the great spots in this part of Marseille.
In the same neighborhood but with a different vibe, you’ll find another welcoming and local-style building. The Cabanon Malmousque is a renovated former fishermen’s shelter, done up by Quentin and Louise, the latter being a local and an avid lover of Marseille. This true cocoon-like cabin, reminiscent of Ibiza, is a tranquil refuge after a day spent in the lively Endoume district, which attracts tourists in the summer. Just minutes from the sea, you can grab a pizza at L’eau à la Bouche before taking a dip. For foodies, a must-visit is the Petit Nice by Gérald Passedat, a family institution that has been around since 1971 and boasts three Michelin stars since 2008.
As the day winds down, it’s time for a glass of pastis on the terrace, watching the local youth dive off the Corniche Kennedy. We may not be brave enough to join them, but we certainly admire their daring spirit!

Just steps from the Old Port, the Vauban neighborhood is sure to charm with its authentic atmosphere, cozy cafés, and great restaurants. An ideal base for any getaway in Marseille, this is where you’ll find La Maison de Ville, envisioned by Enamoura, the well-known boutique-workshop for artisanal decor and lighting in Provence.
From this building, wrapped in a green oasis, one can particularly appreciate the small inner courtyard and its beautiful swimming pool (a rarity in the city!), perfect for cooling off before heading out to explore the narrow streets of the city center, ice cream from Vanille Noire in hand. Just a 16-minute walk away, you can hike up to Notre-Dame de la Garde (affectionately known as “La Bonne Mère”), followed by a stroll along the Old Port, where you can share plates of croquettes, tarama, oysters, and a bottle of pet’nat at Figure, the second spot from the inspired owners of the bistro Ippon. Another tempting option is to shop at the fish market or the Golfe fishmonger’s and enjoy brandade bouchons, shrimp, and sardines on the terrace of La Maison de Ville, shaded by the trees in the small inner courtyard. You might almost forget you’re in the heart of Marseille!
Saint-Marcel and Accates Neighborhoods (11th arrondissement)
A nature-filled vacation in Marseille
For a taste of castle life, Marseille-style, head to the Saint-Marcel neighborhood. Here, you’ll find a 15th-century hunting lodge transformed into a luxurious 1,000m² chateau, nestled in a seven-hectare park. Located in the Calanques National Park and close to the Saint-Cyr mountain range, this spot offers tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Marseille. The expansive building is ideally situated for a day trip to Cassis, which is full of great addresses, such as Villa Madie, a three-Michelin-star restaurant where you can savor dishes inspired by the garden and the Mediterranean.
After returning to the Phocaean city, you can dine at La Table de l’Ours to explore the bistronomic and local cuisine crafted by chef Fabien Augusto, featuring dishes like zucchini flower fritters, gazpacho, carrot hummus, and panisse. A little digestive stroll through the (vast) grounds of the chateau is a perfect way to wind down before sleeping like royalty.
A little further north, you’ll arrive at Casa Cygalea in the Accates neighborhood. This white, angular building, partially submerged, immediately transports you to California. Surrounding it is a truly Marseille-style spot, Le Jardin de la Clue, serving dishes inspired by the market and garden.
