"There’s a wonderfully cozy atmosphere when the fire crackles in the fireplace, and you can admire the snow-capped mountains through the large windows of the living room."
Le Mathilda is a story of family and mountains, woven together by the Covarels and their deep connection to Val d’Isère. Michel, the father and an architect, designed a collection of chalets in a private hamlet close to the village and ski slopes, just a few minutes’ walk away. Among these is Le Mathilda, where the interior was thoughtfully designed by Michel’s wife, Florence, and today, the chalet is managed by their daughter, Mathilde.
Le Mathilda is a spacious 430 m² chalet spread over two levels, built with mountain essentials—wood, stone, and a slate roof unique to Val d’Isère. Its prime location adds to its appeal, but it’s the wealth of amenities that truly elevates the stay: an indoor pool, hammam, ski room, and thoughtful services like daily breakfast, ski delivery, and a dedicated butler, complete with cozy slippers for each guest. For those seeking even more, premium services such as a private shuttle and in-home chef are also available, allowing guests to fully embrace the joys of mountain living.
A chalet
designed for family
Between authenticity and modern touches.
Built in 2009, Le Mathilda has retained all of its original splendor. Michel Covarel, a renowned architect in Val d’Isère since 1995, designed it with the vision of creating an authentic mountain space that combines contemporary comfort with cozy charm—a true expression of alpine living.
The chalet’s traditional materials are perfectly complemented by the interior design of Florence Covarel, who infused the space with art and modernity. By expertly layering textures and colors, and placing vintage pieces—sourced from France and beyond—just so, she has crafted a joyful, warm atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where gathering around the fireplace after a day on the slopes feels perfect.

Holidays
just the way we like them
At the helm of the chalet is Mathilde, who ensures that guests enjoy a personalized and indulgent stay. Le Mathilda is not only beautifully equipped—with a hammam, ski room, pool, massage room, wine cellar, and fireplace—but also offers the attentive services of a butler throughout the entire visit. For those seeking even more luxury, the ‘prestige’ package includes, in addition to all the ‘basic’ services, a private shuttle and the expertise of an in-home chef.
From breakfast—featuring pancakes, breads, pastries, fresh fruit, eggs, and more—to organizing activities, booking massages, classes, and restaurant reservations, plus daily housekeeping and après-ski snacks, the Covarel family has thought of everything. It’s all designed to let you unwind and enjoy, which is nothing short of delightful…

True Avalains
At the table, with a panoramic view of the mountains.
Having made Val d’Isère their home in the 1990s, the Covarel family knows the area inside out and loves to share their favorite spots and activity suggestions. Skiing is naturally at the top of the list, with the 300 km of slopes in the Espace Killy Val d’Isère Tignes, just steps away. The owners proudly claim it’s one of the most stunning ski areas in the world!
Beyond the slopes, the village itself is a gem to explore, with its charming shopping street, historic church, and cozy terraces where you can enjoy a chocolate waffle or a glass of mulled wine. Don’t forget to pick up local specialties like sausages and chestnut cream. For something more unique, consider visiting a mountain farm or even trying ice diving. With so many activities on offer, there’s no shortage of ways to make every holiday memorable!
