"From the dining table, the view of the Mont-Blanc range is simply magnificent."
In 1958, Julien’s grandparents, André and Mauricette, left France for Cuba, where they quickly fell in love with the island, especially the Viñales Valley. When the revolution began, they returned to France and settled in the Chamonix Valley for André’s work as an engineer, just as construction on the Mont-Blanc tunnel was starting. Once again, they were captivated by the natural beauty and stunning landscapes of the area. They built their chalet, naming it Viñales in tribute to Cuba. Completed in 1966, the chalet became the heart of family vacations for decades. In 2021, the grandchildren took on a major renovation project, reviving the home before offering it as a rental.
Today, Chalet Viñales is a warm and inviting retreat with six cozy bedrooms, perfect for accommodating up to 15 guests. Less than five minutes from the slopes, the chalet is fully equipped for a comfortable stay, featuring a fireplace, game room, large equipped kitchen, ski storage, and more. Guests can even enjoy Julien’s culinary expertise as a vegetarian chef and pastry chef. All that’s left is to put on your best ski gear and soak up the crisp mountain air!
How beautiful
the mountains are
With a degree from Sciences Po and a career that started in corporate law, it’s surprising that Julien would become the host and chef at Chalet Viñales—except for his deep connection to the family home and the surrounding natural beauty. Indeed, it was his return to the chalet of his childhood that sparked his desire to switch careers to pastry-making and to open the doors of the chalet by offering a refined, family-style dining experience with a focus on gourmet dishes.
The chalet is the ideal getaway for hiking enthusiasts, with the Mont-Blanc trail nearby, skiers, with the slopes just minutes away, or simply for those who cherish the mountains, as Julien does. “It’s a house rich in history but also forward-looking, as we work to reduce our environmental impact.” From vegetarian and seasonal cuisine to roof insulation, replacing windows, and installing heat pumps—every detail is carefully considered.
Everywhere you look, panoramic views of the mountains.
Still a fan
of the sixties
A chalet like a family home.
With the help of a local architect named Choupin, André and Mauricette had a clear vision for their dream chalet. “Every detail was carefully chosen, supported by numerous sketches,” Julien recalls. The house, cutting-edge for its time, exudes sixties charm with its large picture windows opening to nature, wooden paneling and wainscoting, a slate stage, integrated seating, and custom carpentry…—setting it apart from the typical Savoyard chalet.
Preserved almost exactly as it was for decades, the chalet retains its vintage, warm, and family-focused character. The décor is a joyful blend of 1950s and 60s furniture, Scandinavian pieces collected during their time in Frankfurt, along with period posters and family photos. The result? A beautifully curated space designed for gathering and enjoying cozy moments together.

The mountains
call to us
The village of Les Houches, like a postcard.
Whether you’re losing yourself in thought while admiring the peaks, reading by the fire, racing down the slopes, or enjoying a crêpe and mulled wine in the village of Les Houches, the options here are endless—both in summer and winter!
In the warmer months, hikers are drawn to the area by its many trails—Julien recommends Prarion, Col de Voza, Nid d’Aigle, and the famous Mont-Blanc circuit—as well as the surrounding peace and quiet. In winter, the chalet is a haven for skiers, with the Les Houches ski resort just a ten-minute walk away and Chamonix only 12 minutes by car. Three rental options are available: by the room in a guesthouse format; on an exclusive basis with full board, as is often the case when yoga retreats are held ; and as an independent rental. Time truly flies in this serene setting!
