In Asturias, a contemporary white villa tucked between rolling hills and the Cantabrian Sea. With six suites and a sprawling, flower-filled garden, El Faro Unkempt welcomes up to 12 guests eager to explore this unspoiled coastline.
A lighthouse-home overlooking the sea
"It’s a home defined by its warm, welcoming atmosphere, set against the peaceful contrast of the Asturian hills and the power of the Cantabrian Sea."
Just steps from the historic Tazones lighthouse, El Faro Unkempt rises amid the hills, facing the sea. Built in 2020, the villa sits at the heart of a small village. With six suites — available individually or as a whole — it can host up to 12 guests (sleeps 15 if three don’t mind crashing on a sofa bed), all lulled by the sound of the waves.
The villa is composed of two white buildings with terracotta-tiled roofs, connected by a black, glass-walled structure. The outdoor spaces are just as striking: a beautiful terrace of wood and polished concrete, nestled within a garden that feels almost wild. Everything blends seamlessly into the landscape, offering sweeping views of the sea and the nearby lighthouse.

The birth of
El Faro Unkempt
The owners — Rafael, Fernando, and Pelayo — are true lovers of Asturias. Since childhood, they’ve spent family holidays in Tazones, and that deep connection to the region proved decisive when they came across a little slice of paradise: an old building for sale, right next to the lighthouse.
“The village of Villar, with its gentle pace of life, flower-filled fields, and sea views, won us over from the very first moment,” says Pelayo. It was here that the idea was born: to create a home that embodies simplicity, warmth, and a deep respect for the local environment.
"The design of the house was an experience filled with emotion, sensitivity, and a deep connection to the sea and the way of life in the village of Tazones."
Elevating
the local tradition
To design their home, the owners were determined to preserve the shape and structure of the original building, creating a strong connection to traditional architecture. To bring this vision to life, they surrounded themselves with a talented team: Pelayo del Pozo for artistic direction, Estudio Valle for architecture, Carmen Menéndez for interior design, and Cristina Matosian for the outdoor spaces.
“We worked with an architectural studio that truly understood our vision: preserving the original structure of the house while respecting the lighthouse’s silhouette,” explains Rafael. The result is a home that opens up to nature, where clean lines and natural materials come together to create a vibrant, dynamic living space.

Nature
as a décor
The interior design of El Faro Unkempt, minimalist and warm, highlights natural materials such as wood, linen, and stone. Each piece of furniture and decor has been carefully selected for its simplicity and authenticity.
“We chose pieces that tell a story, like this Hypóstila bookshelf — a true design icon,” explains Fernando. The fluid layout of the house, with no fixed walls, lets natural light flow freely, creating a constant connection with the outdoors. From every room, you can admire the landscape as it shifts throughout the day.

Heading to
Asturias
Tazones is a small fishing village where history blends with daily life. In addition to its natural beauty, visitors can take part in events such as the historical reenactment of Emperor Charles V’s landing at the end of August.
Travelers can also explore the region’s many beaches, a paradise for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts, with plenty of opportunities for hiking and swimming. “Every morning, the sea reminds us of its omnipresence. Waking up to the mist lifting off the water is magical,” says Pelayo.
