"Imagine you are in the Alps, above the treetops, gazing at the mountains bathed in moonlight. The only sound you hear is that of a stag passing by."

On the border of Italy, Austria, and Slovenia, nestled in the Tarvisio forest, stands Il Pino—a striking triangular wooden structure rising from the pines. Spanning three floors, this architectural gem offers a perfect retreat. The ground floor houses a kitchen, bathroom, and living area, while the intermediate level is designed for meditation and yoga, complete with the first suite. The top floor is reserved for the master bedroom, providing breathtaking views of the Alps.

Designed by architects Saba Nabavi Tafreshi and Luca Beltrame (of Studio Beltrame, founded by Luca’s father, architect Claudio Beltrame), Il Pino—meaning “The Pine”—takes inspiration from the surrounding forest, blending natural elements with a modern aesthetic. Completed in 2023, this peaceful haven is just five minutes from the picturesque mountain village of Tarvisio, making it an ideal refuge for hiking and skiing enthusiasts or anyone seeking tranquility in the heart of nature.

Designed to harmonize with nature and promote an eco-friendly lifestyle, Il Pino’s vertical architecture minimizes its environmental impact, reducing the need for tree cutting while blending seamlessly with the surrounding pines. Each floor offers a unique ambiance: intimate and grounded on the lower level, calm and meditative among the foliage on the first floor, and awe-inspiringly elevated above the treetops on the top level. Expansive glass windows ensure that the breathtaking views of the Alps are always present, whether you’re waking up or winding down.

At 45 square meters, the space may seem small for four guests, but the architects have optimized every inch with clever design solutions. For example, the kitchen features a hatch that covers the sink to extend the countertop’s length. “It’s one of our favorite details. We’ve worked with Alta Cucine for years and are always impressed by their craftsmanship. We consider this a masterpiece.” The result is a design-forward cocoon that is as functional as it is cozy.

"Here, you sleep among the trees, surrounded by the mountains and the tranquility of nature."

Twin Peaks
with an Italian design twist

Architects Saba Nabavi Tafreshi and Luca Beltrame are deeply passionate about design and fine furniture. In the rooms, with wooden walls and flooring of parquet or sea rush, carefully selected pieces in natural tones seamlessly blend with the space.

One standout feature in the bedrooms is the geometric nightstands, ‘Falling Cubes’, by designer Marie Dares. The seemingly precarious stack of wooden blocks appears ready to topple, yet remains perfectly stable, adding a playful and contemplative element to the space. Paired with luxurious Coco-Mat bedding, these pieces are thoughtfully crafted to harmonize with the home’s pine-inspired architecture. The tables, reminiscent of the region’s serene lakes, reflect Il Pino’s careful attention to every detail. Nothing is left to chance in this beautifully curated retreat.

win us over

Whether in summer or winter, the Tarvisio resort is a favorite destination for hikers, skiers (with slopes just five minutes away), and mountain enthusiasts who simply want to soak in the fresh air. Our recommendations? Stroll around Lake Fusine Superiore, enjoy some mulled wine in downtown Tarvisio (just a ten-minute walk from Il Pino), and dine at Osteria Hladik. If you’re in the mood to explore further, Austria and Slovenia are just a short trip away. Start your day with a semmel (Austrian roll) and end it with ajdovi žganci—a traditional Slovenian buckwheat dish with pork fat and yogurt. Alternatively, spend the evening stargazing from the top floor of Il Pino.

For an authentic local experience, don’t miss the annual Krampus Night on December 5th, when villagers don mythological costumes and roam the streets with torches in hand. This half-frightening, half-fascinating spectacle delights both visitors and residents alike. Between nature and culture, you’ll find plenty to keep you entertained.
