"Here, it's the dolce vita in its purest form. Guests leave with a touch of sadness but eagerly anticipate their return."

At Il Polpo Nero, the color palette embodies the Mediterranean spirit: green olive trees and maquis, a white building, vibrant fuchsia laurels, and the turquoise hues of both the sea and pool. It’s a postcard-perfect escape, where up to ten guests can enjoy a vacation with family or friends. The experience is elevated by the warm, attentive services of Maison Estran, known for their exceptional collection of seaside properties.

Behind Il Polpo Nero is a family story—Lola and her parents, along with her sister and brother, dreamed of creating a family retreat where they reunite each summer with the same group of loved ones. The property offers a cheerful atmosphere, with spacious terraces, a pool, and easy access to the sea in southern Sardinia. Thoughtfully designed, the space ensures everyone has room to relax without feeling crowded. The main house features three bedrooms and a dormitory, while a separate studio provides an additional double bedroom. Each bedroom comes with its own bathroom for added comfort. Benvenuti in Sardegna!

More than just a collection of homes, Maison Estran offers vacations in tune with the sea’s rhythm, where sunset dinners and leisurely afternoon naps become the norm. “Il Polpo Nero is designed as an intimate haven, both familiar and exotic, where every moment encourages relaxation and escape.”

While the focus is on togetherness, rest is equally prioritized. Guests can wander from one terrace to another, enjoying the various lounging spots or simply unwinding. “Here, it’s all about enjoying good food, reading in the sun, exercising, or napping,” Lola explains. To elevate the experience, the owners provide Vespa, Land Rover, and boat rentals to explore the island’s hidden gems. For added ease, services like a private chef or concierge can be arranged upon request—leaving you with only one task: to fully enjoy your stay!

The house of the black octopus

Built in the 1970s, Il Polpo Nero—though it didn’t yet have its quirky name at the time—was the brainchild of a forward-thinking local architect. Drawing inspiration from the coastlines of Greece and Tunisia, he designed the house to blend with the landscape, carving it into the rock with angular lines, a rooftop terrace, and a brilliant white façade. The striking contrast with Sardinia’s traditional stone buildings makes it truly unique.

Today, Lola and her family pay tribute to the home’s avant-garde spirit by embracing contemporary art and pop culture. The highlight? The large black octopus adorning the living room fireplace—painted by artist Octave Chauvel—which inspired the house’s name. This bold decoration makes Il Polpo Nero truly unique, far removed from the traditional seaside home decor!

To furnish their cherished home, Lola and her family initially considered traditional Sardinian furniture but ultimately opted for mementos from their travels. Their décor, inspired by seaside life—both local and distant—features a carefully curated mix of items: the headboards are made from rugs and sarongs brought back from Morocco and Thailand, a vintage diver found in Sardinia has been transformed into a light fixture, African-inspired masks were crafted from palm fronds by the family friend and neighbor Tonio, and six large canvases were custom-made by the artist, designer, and friend Jean Grisoni…

“Il Polpo Nero blends modern style with raw elements. Each space is designed to evoke the sea, reflecting both real and imagined shorelines through its eclectic, deeply personal décor.” In every room, you can sense the thoughtfulness the family put into creating a space that feels vibrant and inviting. The result is a place where you feel instantly at home.

To tend one’s garden

Overlooking the coastal village of Perd’e Sali, Il Polpo Nero offers an authentic experience, “far from the jet-set scene of northern Sardinia,” as Lola fondly remarks. Surrounded by wild, untouched nature, it’s the perfect spot for relaxation and exploration. The owners share their insider tips for the ideal vacation: dining at the gourmet restaurant Fradis Minoris, enjoying authentic Sardinian dishes at Su Furiadroxu, grabbing gelato at Il Gatto Azzurro, visiting the ancient ruins of Nora, relaxing at Chia Beach, and shopping at the San Benedetto market.

At Il Polpo Nero, where true Sardinian enthusiasts reside, responsible tourism is a priority. The family raises awareness about coastal conservation and partners with local organizations to promote sustainability—a philosophy that makes us love the place even more!
