In Canapville, neighboring Trouville and Deauville, a typical Norman half-timbered house nestled in a 850 m² garden. The perfect vacation home for a getaway to the countryside and the sea, accommodating up to six guests.

The perfect Norman cottage near Deauville

"We are deeply attached to this place; it’s a true little paradise."

Originally from Brittany but now based in Paris, Antoine and Romane were on the hunt for a seaside retreat when they came across L’Albizia. It was love at first sight! With its large picture windows, blooming garden, half-timbered walls, and slate roof, this 20th-century house exudes undeniable charm. Without a second thought, they became its proud owners in 2023.

Spanning 106 m², L’Albizia—named after the tree that stands proudly in front of the house—features three bedrooms. On the ground floor, there’s a suite with a double bed and two additional sleeping options. Upstairs, you’ll find one room with a double bed, another with a single bed, and a mezzanine with an additional single bed. The bathroom is accessed through one of the sleeping quarters.

Located just a ten-minute drive from Deauville and Trouville, this countryside retreat is perfect for enjoying both the beach and nature, and it’s only a 2.5-hour drive from Paris.

Home sweet home

To breathe new life into their cherished home, Romane and Antoine got hands-on with renovations. They preserved the original floors—terracotta tiles, terrazzo, ceramic tiles, seagrass, and polished concrete—while repainting the living room white to let in more light and refreshing the office and bathroom with a warm terracotta hue.

“We aimed to make the house comfortable on a budget—a fresh coat of paint to brighten things up, a custom-built bookshelf to elevate the living room, and lots of décor: a mix of thrifted, salvaged, and repurposed items combined with a few new pieces. It’s an eclectic blend of styles, materials, and vibrant, warm colors that create a cozy and inviting atmosphere,” shares Romane.

Treasure(s)
hunt

Once the light renovations were complete, it was time to furnish and decorate L’Albizia! With years of experience working with Hauvette & Madani and now part of Studio KO, Romane has a talent for finding hidden treasures—thanks to Selency, Le Bon Coin, and local flea markets—and creating beautifully curated interiors.

In the living room, a stunning custom-made bookshelf crafted by a local carpenter displays a collection of charming objects gathered over time (which the owners love rearranging to suit their mood). Nearby, hand-reupholstered armchairs bring a personal and unique touch. The result? A space that feels like a cozy British cottage (the UK isn’t so far away, after all!), especially when enjoying a cup of hot chocolate by the fire.

Lunch in the garden when the sun comes out.

Strolling through the garden of L’Albizia is a delightful experience, but venturing out to explore the Normandy Coast is just as rewarding! Romane and Antoine, now seasoned experts of the region, share their ideal vacation itinerary:

“We love running through the nearby countryside or along the Deauville boardwalks, following the coast to Blonville before stopping at the Trouville fish market to enjoy fresh seafood on-site or bring home a platter. Wandering the charming streets of Trouville or Honfleur, shopping in Deauville, relaxing on Blonville beach, and having lunch at the beachside restaurants in Bernerville are some of our favorite activities. In the evening, we enjoy dining at Les 4 Chats or opting for a livelier atmosphere at L’Équilibriste.”
