On the roads of Touraine, a little detour to Le Détour. A former 200 m² barn turned into a country house on an 8-hectare estate where ten people can enjoy the lush vegetation.

Nature-culture vacations in the heart of Touraine Nature

"I wanted the house to be welcoming, cozy, and approachable: a place where guests wouldn't hesitate to sit on a designer chair for fear of damaging it!"

Before settling down in Touraine, Pauline and Paul took their time exploring the world! During their New Zealand van trip, they shared their photographs in a self-published magazine aptly named “Détours” (Detours), aiming to see as much as possible by getting lost in the narrow streets of the cities they explored. A few years later, “Détours” lost an “s” and became Le Détour, a countryside house capable of hosting ten guests within its stone walls. Nestled in nature and perfectly situated between Angers and Tours, it’s the ideal place for friends scattered across France to reunite and embark on wine and history tours together in the region!

A barn transformed into
a vacation home

Once, in this house with its large windows, ancient stones, and colorful walls, goats and horses were housed here, before it served for a time as a hunting lodge. Pauline and Paul, seasoned photographers, completely transformed this 200 m² space with the help of the architect Samuel Crosnier. Together, they modernized the very traditional structure of the region’s farms by adding large black geometric-patterned windows, replacing the old wooden doors and allowing ample natural light to flood in.

Pauline and Paul’s vision was to create a chic countryside retreat. To achieve this, they preserved the existing materials—wooden beams, bricks, and large stones—and adorned the space with new designer pieces like the WO&WÉ lamp by Olivier Abry. They also incorporated unique finds from local flea markets, which are abundant on weekends. Scandinavian rocking chairs, mismatched wicker chairs, and farmhouse benches add subtle nods to the countryside, creating a sense of familiarity and timeless charm at Le Détour.

At Le Détour, we embrace the slow life. Surrounded by 8 hectares of meadows and woods, this vacation home offers exceptional tranquility and seclusion. Here, you can breathe in the scent of linden trees, listen to the hum of insects among the flowering mimosa, and occasionally encounter sheep grazing and enjoying this preserved environment.

Days at Le Détour effortlessly unfold with sessions in the Nordic bath, games of pétanque or molkky, board games on the terrace, sunlit naps, and reading in the window seat of the living room—Pauline’s favorite spot in the morning to savor her coffee. Children have plenty to keep them entertained with toys and books galore! In the evening, upon request, Pauline prepares delightful platters to enjoy while watching the sunset… and the cycle repeats the next day!

A region worth
a detour

For the more adventurous, vacations at Le Détour can extend beyond its grounds. There’s no shortage of activities in the region! From exploring the Loire Valley castles and wine tastings at local producers to forest walks and country lane strolls, you might need multiple stays at Le Détour to see it all! These outings offer the perfect opportunity to prepare a 100% Touraine picnic: Sainte-Maure-de-Touraine goat cheese, local wine, rillettes, honey… After a little excursion, the desire to return to Le Détour is strong. It truly feels like being at home!
