Tucked away in a tiny village in the Vexin Regional Park, the perfect countryside retreat for a nature escape. Accommodating up to 12 guests across a beautifully revamped presbytery and barn, thoughtfully redesigned by inspired owners.

An escape to the countryside in the Vexin

"We’ve managed to preserve the soul of the buildings while bringing in modern comforts. It’s a true escape from it all — yet just a stone’s throw from Paris."

Less than an hour from Paris, Maison Georges is the perfect countryside retreat for a weekend getaway—or longer. Nestled in the heart of the charming village of Ménouville, the former presbytery and barn can accommodate up to 12 guests. With 1,300 m² of outdoor space, guests can enjoy terraces, a fire pit, a pizza oven, and even a pétanque court to make the most of long, leisurely evenings.

Here, it’s not about grand open spaces, but a series of inviting rooms — perfect for shared moments while still offering privacy when needed. The presbytery’s charming garden is an absolute favorite. For a cozy atmosphere, nothing beats an evening by the Canadian stove in the barn. In every season, Maison Georges wins over travelers seeking nature, fresh air, and a true escape.

The story of
Maisons Georges

Slow life at Maison Georges.

Slow life at Maison Georges.

Before it began welcoming Parisians in search of greenery, Maison Georges was an 18th-century presbytery, originally connected to the neighboring Saint-Georges Chapel. As for the barn, it once served as agricultural storage and still had a dirt floor when the property was purchased in 2020.

“It took a lot of imagination,” recalls Fanny, the owner. Together with her husband Benoît, she fell in love with this one-of-a-kind property — the first to be separated from the Domaine de Balincourt in decades.

From barn & presbytery
to vacation home

Renovating the two buildings was a two-and-a-half-year adventure. “When we bought the property, nothing was habitable!” admits Fanny.

Their goal was clear: preserve the authenticity of the place while adding modern comfort. As a result, the original terracotta tiles, painted baseboards, and even an old wooden pantry were restored. Skilled artisans such as Matthias Biberon for the interior design and Karolänn Bapté Traversac—whose work was already admired at Bleu Wisteria—were brought in to help bring Maison Georges to life. For the architectural work, it was Steeve and Stephane, founders of the Costa Agency, who lent their expertise.

“It’s perfectly imperfect,” laughs Fanny, describing a distinctive décor that draws on the Japanese wabi-sabi philosophy. The style blends vintage furniture with contemporary pieces, all carefully curated by the owner, who has plenty of inspiration after 15 years at the Merci concept store in Paris.

Taking the time

Another option, and not the least, is to stroll in the garden.

Another option, and not the least, is to stroll in the garden.

The Vexin is a region that’s just as enjoyable on foot as it is by bike. Hikers delight in the many marked trails, while cyclists make the most of the nearby Paris-London route.

The homeowners’ top recommendations? On Sunday mornings, head to L’Isle-Adam to stroll through the market or hunt for treasures at the local flea markets. And at the end of the day, what could be better than an aperitif around the fire pit under a starry sky? “We wanted a house with character,” Fanny concludes. Mission accomplished!
