Maison Minard

In the Côtes-d’Armor, an artists’ haven suspended above the sea

To lose oneself in the horizon of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, a visit to Maison Minard is a must. A small, typically Breton stone house perched at the edge of a cliff.

"The evening light over the Bay of Saint-Brieuc, visible from the house, is breathtaking: shades of pink, blue, and beige..."

The wild landscapes of Northern Brittany need no introduction: steep cliffs, turbulent seas, and lush green meadows. At the forefront of this natural spectacle is Maison Minard and its fortunate vacationers.

This small Breton house from the 1980s, with its minimalist design, welcomes families and groups of friends to explore the area, hike, and relax. Whatever the planned activity, complete disconnection awaits within this classified and protected site where the landscape reigns supreme!

In harmony
with nature

At the origin of Maison Minard are Élodie, a photographer, and Camille, a chef. Together, they embarked on the renovation of this house, initially drawn to its discreet nature, which, it must be acknowledged, adds to its charm. “With its flat roof and single-story design, the house blends into the landscape, allowing nature to express its beauty.” Featuring large windows and a southern exposure, it offers breathtaking views of the ocean. In this house, one rises (sometimes) early to appreciate incredible sunrises and makes every effort to be back for the golden hour facing the sea—a suspended moment that becomes a ritual for the duration of the week.

The interior has been envisioned as a studio-house with open communal spaces. Inspired by post-industrial and brutalist aesthetics, all the decoration and furnishings were carefully sourced from local flea markets. The kitchen, library, and storage solutions were crafted by a Nantes-based collective of architect-plastician-builders known as Fichtre. The bespoke decor, meticulously crafted down to the millimeter, is captivating. What we also love are the natural materials—wood, metal, linen—that bring a Scandinavian touch and harmonize perfectly with the wild and preserved environment.

Designed as a sanctuary-studio, Maison Minard welcomes artists, musicians (no need to bring your piano, the house has one), writers, and travelers from around the world seeking peace and inspiration. Here, they are invited to recharge and fuel their creativity in a picturesque setting.

The house has been carefully planned with features like durable concrete floors and a large wooden table for drawing, composing, or writing. The environment is perfect for unleashing your creative potential! Whether in residence or on vacation, it’s impossible not to feel inspired in the conservatory facing the sea. And when the need for a break arises, a stroll through the garden-orchard rejuvenates the spirit!

Discovering the
Côtes-d’Armor

Here, outdoor activities abound: walks along the cliffs, coastal trails leading to Pointe de Minard, excursions to Île de Bréhat, and relaxation at Bréhec Beach, where a touch of civilization can be found at a few local bars. You’ll mostly encounter cyclists and hikers here; traffic is almost non-existent, which suits us just fine.

For a quick trip into town, head to Paimpol for moules-frites at the port and a leisurely stroll through the shopping streets. We finish with a crepe eaten with our fingers and quickly head back home to catch the pastel hues of the day’s end over the bay!
