"Every evening, we witness an incredible sunset right in front of the house, over the sea. It's impossible to get tired of it!"
In southern Corsica, near Propriano, a unique building emerges from the maquis, nestled between the sea and the mountains. Angélique and her husband have transformed the ruins of an old wine press into their dream home, set on a one-hectare plot with a pool.
This stunning retreat accommodates six travelers and features a surprising blend of colors and materials amidst vineyards and almond trees. The house offers plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy the breathtaking surroundings, making it an impressive and serene getaway.
From ruins to
a dream vacation home
Before becoming the proud owner alongside her husband, Angélique was familiar with this abandoned 1960s building, perched on a hill. She couldn’t help but admire it every time she passed by. One fine day, the couple took the plunge and acquired it! Both natives of the region, they wanted to preserve the original ruin, built from gathered stones and tiles. Thus began the extensive renovations, as the original structure was barely standing.
“We couldn’t have renovated the house using the same materials because it was built from stones and tiles that the locals gathered from the area,” Angélique explains. “So, we decided to take a different approach and create something entirely new, yet harmonious.”Angélique and her husband envisioned an extension made of whitewashed concrete, adding a modern touch they particularly love. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, it also serves to stabilize the ruins of the old wine press. “It’s a house that rises from the ashes of the old building, a union of the authentic and the modern.”

The sweetness of life
in Corsica
Life is good at U Mulinu Casanelli, a name derived from the local belief that it was once a mill, fondly called “Moulin Belmonde,” meaning “beautiful world.” This Corsican gem lives up to its nickname. And Casanelli? A blend of the owners’ surnames! Just minutes from the Mediterranean, overlooking mountains, almond fields, and vineyards, U Mulinu Casanelli is the epitome of a dream Corsican vacation.
To complete this idyllic picture, guests at U Mulinu Casanelli can indulge in a range of services: concierge service, yoga classes, boat rides, picnic baskets, and homemade breakfasts. Or, they can simply unwind and enjoy the property’s serene garden and pool. This profoundly peaceful environment invites you to breathe in the scent of maquis plants while listening to the nearby animals—goats, cows, and birds—also enjoying the good life.

"I love having breakfast on the terrace in the morning; it's peaceful and quiet, almost like a moment suspended in time."
The taste of beauty
The dining room, a place to gather while admiring the landscape.
“When I saw it atop the hill, the house seemed immense, almost oversized.” Before becoming this stunning vacation home, U Mulinu Casanelli underwent a remarkable transformation. Angélique, inspired by the ruins she “fell in love with,” drew up all the plans herself—a notable feat given that it’s not her profession. To maximize space and enhance convenience, they installed an elevator instead of a staircase, a feature that travelers laden with luggage truly appreciate!
A connoisseur of beauty, Angélique meticulously selected exquisite pieces to furnish her beloved home: tables and chairs from Ethnicraft, the iconic Pipistrello design lamp, and a Gervasoni sofa. Her impeccable taste and attention to detail are evident throughout. The result? A perfect balance of authenticity and supreme comfort, creating a home where travelers feel pampered and content!
