The villa offers stunning vantage points for sipping cocktails and lounging while watching boats drift by and the sun set over the Faraglioni.

Today, Villa Cisterna is owned by Katherine, an Australian based in London, and her husband, a native of southern Italy. However, the villa has a rich history. Centuries ago, it was part of a palazzo, and at one point, it even functioned as a water reservoir. It wasn’t until 1974 that the villa returned to its role as a residence. In 2024, Katherine and her husband fell in love with its breathtaking views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and acquired the property, captivated by its terraces, each more beautifully adorned with flowers than the last.

Fortune smiled upon them, as the previous owners had already completed a significant renovation, modernizing the villa while enhancing its comfort. Thoughtfully designed across three levels, the interior is split into two independent units, offering the perfect balance between shared time and personal space. Now, all that remains is to enjoy this retreat with up to eight guests on the legendary island of Capri, savoring the “little” luxuries that make all the difference: private beach access, a pool, concierge service, and more!

From Melbourne to Capri

On the island of Capri, stunning properties are everywhere, though many still carry a somewhat outdated decor. At Villa Cisterna, however, the previous owners, who were also Australian, brought an Aussie touch to the villa’s aesthetic: white walls, wooden furniture, straw light fixtures, and rattan accents. The result, as Katherine describes it, is “clean, modern, and minimalist.” When Australian style meets Capri’s charm, it’s a perfect blend!

The outdoor spaces have been equally well-designed for guests to enjoy: nestled among bougainvillea, palm trees, and laurels, there’s a pool, a summer kitchen, and various spots for dining under the stars, lounging, or simply admiring the sea. The crowning touch? Villa Cisterna is one of the few homes on the island with direct beach access. When you’re spending more time outside than in, you know the vacation is a success!

To furnish their cherished home, Katherine and her husband took inspiration from seaside cottages, Scandinavian design, local craftsmanship, and Australian lifestyle. The result is an inviting mix that includes a cozy sofa from The Conran Shop, tableware by local artisans (Eureka di Pollicino), and a Fermob garden table—a cheerful blend that instantly brings to mind vacations filled with time spent between the beach and the terrace.

“We envisioned minimalist interiors so that the focus would always be on the breathtaking outdoor view.” And it’s true—the star at Villa Cisterna is the sweeping panorama of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the iconic Faraglioni—a postcard-perfect setting.

You don’t need to be a fortune teller to plan your stay at Villa Cisterna! Start with the nearby Torre Saracena beach, which feels like an extension of the villa itself. From the terrace, you can check if any loungers are available before heading down for a sun-soaked reading session or snorkeling in the turquoise waters.

If the weather isn’t too hot, the famous Via Krupp trail, located next to Villa Cisterna, offers a scenic hike that leads to Capri’s Piazzetta in under 30 minutes. Botany enthusiasts will love exploring the Giardini di Augusto, where Mediterranean gardens bloom along picturesque pathways. For a different perspective, rent a boat to admire Capri from the sea and swim in secluded coves.

Be sure to savor the local cuisine: start with insalata Caprese, enjoy spaghetti alla Nerano (zucchini and Provolone) as the main course, and end with a decadent torta Caprese—a chocolate and almond cake. Pack your swimsuits and snorkels—your Capri adventure awaits!
