“From the outside, a charming cottage typical of the Vallée de Chevreuse, nestled between orchards and fields. Inside, a feeling of Asia. A countryside retreat like no other, spacious at 150 m², accommodating up to 15 guests.

"It feels like being in a cocoon, outside of time."

In the picturesque village of Les Molières, nestled in the Vallée de Chevreuse, you’ll find Au Bout du Verger. At first glance, the beige 20th-century building, typical of the region, blends seamlessly with its neighbors. But step inside, and the uniqueness of this property reveals itself: a décor and furnishings curated by Thierry Grundman, a traveling antiques dealer and founder of Atmosphère d’Ailleurs.

Far from your typical country house, Au Bout du Verger offers its 15 guests a true journey through a carefully curated selection of objects from Asia, handpicked by the owner, complemented by stunning designer pieces. All of this is set within a lush, green haven—an idyllic escape for Parisians, as this peaceful retreat is just an hour from the capital. Guests can unwind in the serene ambiance of the house, enjoy the blooming garden, or savor the orchard’s bounty. A perfect place to disconnect!

Founded by Thierry Grundman in the 1990s, Atmosphère d’Ailleurs presents a collection of carefully curated, unique items sourced from diverse cultures. Thierry, driven by a deep appreciation for ancient craftsmanship, personally selects each piece for its beauty, authenticity, and emotional resonance. Embracing the wabi-sabi philosophy, he celebrates the imperfect beauty and the marks of time that each object carries. “Our materials bear the wrinkles of travel, nature, light, and life.”

Today, Thierry is focused on preserving traditional craftsmanship by working hand-in-hand with artisans to restore and reimagine these objects, breathing new life into them.

The beauty
of simplicity

At Au Bout du Verger, Thierry Grundman envisioned the space as a kind of living showroom, designed to inspire guests during their stay. In rooms adorned with limewash-painted walls by Delphine Drouin—an artist and decorator—the emphasis is on simplicity. The calming tones of beige, taupe, and gray blend seamlessly with the natural surroundings, creating a peaceful atmosphere.

The home is filled with beautiful, natural materials: an ironwood dining table, a minimalist kitchen, and soft linen curtains and bed linens, all complemented by one-of-a-kind pieces. Above the staircase, a cascade of handwoven metal pendant lights by designer Mark Eden Schooley draws the eye. In one of the bathrooms, a vintage shell has been ingeniously repurposed into a unique basin, adding to the home’s charm.

The Vallée de Chevreuse is a destination to be savored year-round. In summer, guests at Au Bout du Verger can enjoy leisurely barbecues on the expansive terrace, stretching well into the afternoon. Autumn invites walks through the nearby Rambouillet Forest, just a 30-minute drive away, where you can forage for mushrooms and chestnuts. Or, take time to explore the charming neighboring villages like Dampierre-en-Yvelines and Chevreuse.

Winter brings cozy moments by the fireplace, perfect for reading a book in the living room or perhaps taking a cooking class with a local chef. For those inclined, painting workshops can be arranged with a nearby artist. And as spring arrives, guests can admire the blossoming landscape through the large bay windows before heading out for a refreshing stroll. There’s something for every season at Au Bout du Verger!
