"Our goal with Casa Clema is to create the kind of home we would love to rent ourselves—authentic, full of charm, and tastefully decorated."
Having grown up in Milan, Marco first noticed this charming home tucked away in a lush garden during weekend and holiday visits to friends’ houses. Now, as an adult, he spends his vacations at Lake Como with his French wife, Philippine. The house had stayed in his mind for years, and eventually, he pursued the dream of owning it. Abandoned for a decade, Marco and Philippine acquired it through an auction—without ever setting foot inside! What followed was a year-long renovation to revive this 1960s property, turning a teenage dream into reality.
Named Casa Clema after the couple’s daughters, this charming and cheerful vacation home will welcome its first guests—groups of up to eight—by the end of 2024. Just ten minutes from Lake Como and the village of Lenno, it offers four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a garden, and a terrace. The décor is simple yet eclectic, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The best part? Guests can enjoy a range of services, including activity planning, a private chef, concierge, and chauffeur, allowing for a truly relaxing stay. After all, it would be a shame not to unwind in such a beautiful setting!
From a local house
to Casa Clema
The original alcoves of the house.
Once vibrant in yellow and blue, Casa Clema has now embraced the natural tones of its surroundings since Marco and Philippine became its owners. What remains intact? The rustic charm of the house, with its exposed beams, alcoves, semi-arched doors, and traditional terrazzo and Lombard cotto floors—the iconic tiles of the region. The former garage has been cleverly transformed into a sleeping area with two bedrooms. The layout is a real highlight: the four bedrooms and two bathrooms are thoughtfully positioned on either side of the main living space, offering privacy while maintaining a cozy communal feel for large gatherings.
The verdict? Casa Clema has skillfully retained its authentic character while adding modern comforts. In winter, relax by the fireplace; in summer, unwind on the terrace or in the shaded garden before taking a refreshing dip in the lake.
A happy
marriage
To furnish and decorate Casa Clema, Philippine infused a touch of French charm into Lake Como. Antique furniture sourced from Selency and flea markets, Gien tableware, Sarah Lavoine wall sconces, along with family heirlooms and lithographs, create a beautifully eclectic atmosphere. The house is a blend of pieces collected from all over, each adding character to this renovated gem.
Here and there, modern accents bring a lively contrast: Panton Verner lamps, drawings from the ASL architecture studio, and paintings by contemporary artist Thomas Berra, a friend of Marco’s. Philippine describes them as ‘objects with a soul.’ In the kitchen, rock handles crafted by artist Nastassia Brame complement the iconic 1950s Artemide lamp and Smeg appliances, adding a playful yet refined touch. The joyful mix of styles almost makes you forget you’re in Italy—though the Italian spirit is felt throughout.

La dolce vita
at Lake Como
Beautiful landscapes everywhere.
Nestled in the hills above Lenno, Casa Clema offers the perfect balance between enjoying Lake Como and escaping the summer crowds. Just a ten-minute stroll will lead you to lakeside restaurants and gelaterias, perfect for a leisurely afternoon. The real highlight? Renting a boat to cruise the turquoise waters and explore nearby gems like Menaggio, Bellagio, and Como. Be sure to visit the iconic villas, Balbianello and Carlotta, showcasing the best of local architecture and sure to inspire future vacations.
For mountain lovers, the Italian Alps offer stunning hiking opportunities. And if you’re in the mood for a change of scenery, Switzerland is just a short drive away. You can savor brasato (braised beef) with polenta for lunch in Lugano, then return for perch risotto with sage butter by the lake for dinner. In Italy, la dolce vita is always a culinary adventure!
