"The atmosphere is calm, serene, and perfect for bringing people together. Removed from the hustle and bustle of tourist life, the estate offers genuine tranquility in the heart of nature."
Built in 1823, as noted on its etched façade, the Domaine du Bost is a breathtaking property where guests can wander through the expansive 35-hectare park, bask in the sun by the pool, and explore the beauty of the Périgord Noir. Named after the nearby hamlet—Bostnegre, meaning “the dark woods” in the regional dialect—this former farm, with its charming courtyard at its heart, offers an idyllic retreat for those seeking a serene escape into nature.
Lovingly restored by its previous owners, who were captivated by its charm, the estate’s three buildings—the main house, the cottage, and the bakehouse—now accommodate up to sixteen guests. The main house offers four bedrooms, while the cottage and bakehouse each include one. Perched atop one of Castelnaud’s hills, the property provides stunning views of Beynac Castle and its valley, all surrounded by forests with countless hiking trails. Let’s embark on a grand tour of this exceptional estate!

Before becoming the Domaine du Bost as it is today, the property lived many lives. Dating back to the early 19th century, the farmhouse was likely owned by a wealthy family of tenant farmers associated with Beynac Castle, as suggested by its elegant design and the high quality of its materials. The former courtyard, once used for threshing wheat, is now a tranquil spot for enjoying lunch under the shade of large trees or taking a nap on the lawn.
When the buildings fell into disrepair, the previous owners undertook a meticulous restoration. They hired a renowned architect of the era to fully rehabilitate and faithfully rebuild the estate. Every detail was carefully considered: the rammed earth flooring in the washroom, the kitchen, and the terrace were crafted by a local artisan, preserving traditional techniques to create a floor typical of the region. Even the ceilings were restored, with the frame rebuilt to match the original structure using Périgord-style beams.
“The challenge was to make it a comfortable home—with underfloor heating, modern switches, and a professional kitchen—while retaining its original farmhouse character.” A challenge they met with remarkable success! At Domaine du Bost, lovers of historic architecture and modern comforts will feel equally at home.
Originally, the property was a traditional farmhouse built around a central courtyard used for threshing wheat. It featured a beautiful barn for livestock, an old pigsty, a chicken coop, a notable bread oven, and a watering trough. The estate also included a wine cellar, a large enclosure surrounded by dry stone walls, and a tobacco drying barn.
In an exceptional setting,
inspired decoration
The interior décor of the estate strikes a perfect balance between tradition and contemporary design. At its heart is a large, custom-made table, crafted by a local blacksmith, which can seat up to 20 guests—ideal for hosting grand feasts. Family heirlooms scattered throughout add a personal and historic touch, while modern bedding ensures optimal comfort for all guests.
The contemporary style shines through in the clean lines and use of raw materials. For example, the bookshelves feature untreated oak planks, whose minimalist design adds a distinctly modern aesthetic while preserving the rustic charm of the wood. The old beams, sanded but left in their natural state, are accentuated by hidden spotlights that cast a soft, inviting glow.
In the living room, the polished concrete floor harmonizes with the original exposed beams, which have been carefully preserved to enhance the authenticity of the space. The overall layout achieves a seamless blend of modern elements designed for comfort and timeless details that tell a story.
