« Il y a une atmosphère très cosy l’hiver avec les lumières tamisées. C’est aussi très agréable l’été : on profite de l’extérieur grâce à la grande terrasse et aux baies vitrées. »

Built in 1825, Ferme Fougere once housed livestock and hay before welcoming skiers and mountain lovers. In 2017, Rosie and Alex—a British brother and sister duo, respectively an architect and an ecology consultant—acquired the property, which was in a state of serious disrepair. Having grown up skiing in the area with their family, they were looking for a building to renovate. Ferme Fougere was just waiting for them.

They embarked on a renovation project that lasted two years, getting hands-on every step of the way. The result reflects their hard work: a stunning chalet ideally located just a few minutes’ walk from a lift leading to the ski area of ‘Évasion Mont Blanc,’ rising over four floors and accommodating 16 guests. Contemporary yet inviting, Ferme Fougere has many advantages: a ski room, a Norwegian bath, high-end amenities, and concierge service… All that’s left to do is enjoy!

Ferme Fougere 2.0

Transforming an old farmhouse into a cozy and welcoming chalet is no easy task. With the help of a French architect, Rosie and Alex preserved the original stone and wood structure while infusing the interiors with a harmonious blend of rustic and contemporary charm, featuring wood paneling, linen, and polished concrete. One standout design element is an impressive block of granite, sculpted from a local river, which serves as the centerpiece of the living area’s fireplace—a stunning feature that enhances the space.

To bring more light into the once-dark building, large east-facing bay windows were installed, offering fantastic views of the valley and Mont Blanc. In the main room, a beautifully crafted custom staircase, combining metal and wood, exemplifies the fusion of the traditional mountain farmhouse with the modern vision of its young and inspired owners.

“During the renovation of the chalet, we saw an opportunity to do something different, to elevate the quality with unusual features.” While clearing out the farmhouse, Alex and Rosie repurposed objects they found, giving them a new life. For example, original wooden sleds have been transformed into charming coffee tables. The result is delightful yet tasteful, adding character without being kitschy.

“We love that there’s a story behind the objects, while still appreciating the contemporary.” Alongside these refurbished pieces, you’ll find timeless design elements and travel mementos, like the Gervasoni linen armchair and a large raw wood dining table. Throughout the chalet, the attention to detail and Rosie and Alex’s thoughtful work in interior decoration is evident, enhancing the warmth and charm of their beloved chalet.

High-end
services

To offer a complete vacation experience at Ferme Fougere, Alex and Rosie have equipped the chalet with luxurious amenities that are sure to impress. Guests can enjoy a Norwegian bath on the terrace, perfect for sipping champagne while taking in the stunning mountain views, a dedicated ski room, a sauna (housed where the old cheese factory once stood), hotel-quality bedding, Piglet in Bed linens, and Acqua di Parma toiletries. Everything is designed to make guests feel pampered.

In addition, Ferme Fougere offers premium services: personalized check-ins, concierge support for restaurant bookings, ski lessons, activities, the option to hire a private chef, and breakfast featuring local products. It’s the ultimate blend of rustic charm and refined luxury. Alex and Rosie also host yoga retreats in the summer and alpine sports adventures in the winter, making it a year-round mountain haven.

Surrounding Ferme Fougere, scenic walks abound, with the soothing sound of a small stream flowing right beside the chalet. A short stroll brings you to the ‘St Gervais’ ski slope and the Bettex cable car, opening the gateway to the expansive ‘Évasion Mont Blanc’ ski area. Just a few minutes away by car, you can reach the Contamines resort or the charming Mont Blanc tramway, which climbs up to a pass overlooking Les Houches. It’s well worth packing a picnic to enjoy lunch with breathtaking views of the peaks.

After an active day of skiing, hiking, or biking, you can wander through the streets of Saint-Gervais, where dining options range from Michelin-starred restaurants to the authentic local flavors of La Ferme du Cupelin. To cap off the day, unwind in the Norwegian bath while gazing at the stars, or sink into the comfort of Ferme Fougere’s linen sheets for a restful night.
