"The sunrises and sunsets over the lavender fields are breathtaking every day."
In the heart of lavender country, the Luberon, welcome to La Maïoun—meaning “the house” or “the link” in Old Provençal. This charming dry-stone building, with its blue shutters evoking lavender fields, perfectly captures Provençal tradition. Built in 1817 by a family of lavender distillers to house seasonal pickers, some rooms once served as storage for harvested flowers. Recently renovated in 2024 by interior architect and designer Margaux Keller, La Maïoun now combines authentic charm with a warm, neo-Provençal modern flair.
Only once you step inside do you sense what makes this home stand out: Margaux Keller’s distinctive touch. The vibrant and playful decor transforms La Maïoun into the ideal retreat for six adults and four children, ready to soak up the Luberon sun by the pool and breathe in the scent of lavender. The cherry on top? A concierge service and thoughtful details that ensure a delightful stay.

Trained at the Olivier de Serres School and later at the Boulle School, Margaux Keller honed her craft under the guidance of icons like Philippe Starck, Eugeni Quitllet, and Sam Baron before founding Margaux Keller Design Studio in Marseille in 2011.
When Margaux designs an object or space, she prioritizes not only functionality and aesthetics but, above all, the emotion it inspires. Her work is poetic, playful, and filled with joy. At La Maïoun, she brought her vision to life in this vacation-home showroom. Blending Provençal charm with her distinctive style, she incorporated vibrant accents—such as lemon-yellow tiles in the bathroom and tomato-red in the kitchen—paired with traditional tomettes, wooden beams, and stone walls. It’s a cheerful mix, a tribute to the South’s warmth and color.

Sustainable
design
In a world increasingly aware of overproduction, Margaux Keller reflects deeply on her role as a designer—the creator of objects. “I feel a need today to show and demonstrate that we can approach design in a more mindful way, focusing on the origins and production of our items. Our local regions hold hidden craftsmanship treasures that are disappearing. As designers, it’s our duty to revive these traditions and prove that such a process is not only possible but also richer, of higher quality, and more sustainable.”
At La Maïoun, Margaux highlights this commitment to local craftsmanship with artisan-made items and unique finds. The sunny yellow tiles adorning a striking stone vault? Courtesy of Terres Cuites des Launes, a factory in Salernes dating back to 1910. The garden furniture? Vintage. And Margaux’s own designs? Crafted primarily in France, with some pieces from Portugal and Italy, all built to endure and age gracefully.

A tribute
to Provence
All around, Provençal nature. © Lili In Wonderland
Born in the South, Margaux Keller couldn’t resist paying tribute to her roots in this picture-perfect Provençal setting. With cypress trees, lavender fields—including a distillery nearby—and the sound of cicadas, the landscape couldn’t be more quintessentially Luberon.
Inside, the décor reveals touches of Provence: Margaux’s own designs for bed linens and cushions feature a modernized “mouche provençal” motif, along with yellow-and-white stripes echoing the region’s iconic beach huts and umbrellas.
Taking inspiration from traditional Provençal headwear, she crafted a light fixture called “Couqueto,” named after a cap worn by the Marseille bourgeoisie. These details highlight the careful thought and inspiration behind every element of this exceptional home.
