"The house captivates with its simple, cozy ambiance and authentic character—like Snow White’s cottage, just without the dwarfs!"

Since childhood, Nathalie has roamed the paths of the Périgord Vert, a lush corner of the Dordogne where plains, forests, and meadows unfold in endless shades of green. After years spent abroad and in Paris, she and her husband Vincent returned to their beloved region to breathe new life into a traditional barn—built in 1789 and part of the family since 1968. Their vision? To transform it into a charming country retreat with the feel of an English cottage. Designed to accommodate six to eight guests, with three bedrooms and a sofa bed, La Petite Grange des Vignes has been lovingly restored by its dedicated owners, offering city dwellers a much-needed escape into nature.

Built from the golden limestone of Thiviers and framed with chestnut beams, the house offers spacious, airy interiors. Once a stable and hayloft, it has been transformed into a warm and inviting space, featuring a welcoming kitchen, a cozy dining area, and an intimate living room. Surrounded by hiking trails, woodlands, and peaceful ponds, La Petite Grange des Vignes is the perfect retreat for those looking to reconnect with nature. And the cherry on top? Nathalie ensures every guest feels truly cared for from start to finish—so all that’s left to do is relax and enjoy!

From an 18th-century barn
to a charming holiday cottage

Built in 1789, this traditional Limousin-Périgord barn has some truly picturesque neighbors—six other stone houses of the same style, forming a postcard-perfect hamlet. “It’s one of the loveliest spots in the area. The houses, with their tiled roofs and little stone walls, have a truly special charm.”

Not far away lie the Vignes de Chalusset, once used to produce sacramental wine for the Collégiale de Saint-Yrieix-la-Perche, among others—a legacy that inspired the house’s name.

In Nathalie’s family for nearly 50 years, the property reflects a life shaped by travel. Her parents—her father from Limousin, her mother Russian—spent years abroad, collecting treasures from around the world, now housed in the estate’s two homes and two barns. For Nathalie and her sisters, this place was once their childhood playground, adding an extra layer of warmth and history to the home.

“This old barn has stood the test of time before becoming a renovation project led by Vincent and me. Aware of its potential, we spent over 15 years imagining its transformation, which finally took shape in 2023–2024 with the help of talented local artisans. This restoration, carried out with deep respect for its past, has preserved its authenticity while adding a touch of modern comfort and elegance,” Nathalie explains.

After many years abroad and two decades in Paris, Nathalie and Vincent decided to change their lives and continue the story begun by Nathalie’s parents: “Making Les Vignes a little piece of paradise!” A challenge they embraced wholeheartedly. From the carefully curated interior décor to the rustic charm of the house—exposed stone walls, wooden beams, terracotta tiles—combined with vast, wooded, and flower-filled grounds, this haven of preserved nature instantly feels like home.

This former barn, now infused with a rustic-chic style and a touch of wabi-sabi—the Japanese philosophy that finds beauty in imperfection and simplicity—was designed to offer more than just a place to stay. Each of the three bedrooms tells its own story, inviting curiosity and discovery: “Grandfather’s Library,” a tribute to a cherished collection of old books; “Distant Lands,” inspired by a journey through the Andes; and “Long Haul,” a nod to great voyages across the world.

The communal spaces further enrich this sense of escape. “The Rum Cellar,” with its intimate, cigar-lounge feel, evokes the Caribbean with its selection of rum and soft jazz in the background. The bright, welcoming living room blends a bohemian spirit with treasures collected from around the world. Meanwhile, the dining room—adjacent to the kitchen—encourages togetherness, with a round table at its center and a warm, inviting ambiance.”I love every object, every piece of furniture, every detail! Everything has found its place as if it was meant to be there and nowhere else—a décor that the house itself called for,” Nathalie beautifully sums up.
