It’s THE pied-à-terre to prioritize for any self-respecting décor and antique enthusiast! In the heart of the village of L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (whose reputation precedes it), a tall townhouse designed to accommodate 4 travelers.

The most charming vintage townhouse in l’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue

"Thanks to the light streaming through, waking up to the magnificent colors of a sunrise and the sound of the church bell is a true delight."

Upon discovering L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, it’s easy to see why it’s nicknamed the ‘Venise Comtadine’: the green and blue reflections of the water are everywhere in this island-like city, offering a refreshing escape during hot summer days. Here lies Le 4, a typically Provençal townhouse where traditional materials and vintage finds from places like Morocco and Andalusia flourish. The diverse inspirations result in a delightfully vintage ambiance! In this 74m² triplex, guests can leave their purchases on the ground floor, ascend to the first floor to find the living room and kitchen, and continue to the second floor where two bedrooms and a spacious bathroom are nestled. Welcome to Clotilde’s!

Inspirations
from here and beyond

When Clotilde and her husband landed at Le 4, Clotilde, a skilled interior decorator, wasted no time starting the renovation. With a focus on preserving existing materials like Provençal terracotta tiles, antique parquet, and terrazzo-style cement tiles, she added touches from other places to complement the style. The result? From the outside, it’s a quintessential Provençal townhouse. Inside, however, you can sense the owners’ travels beyond the South! Even when she travels, Clotilde isn’t entirely on vacation, as she continues her profession by hunting for beautiful local pieces. ‘I love finding unique pieces; antique objects bring personality and give identity to the place,’ she says.”

To beautify Le 4, Clotilde returned from Morocco with suitcases full of local treasures: zellige tiles for the shower, golden pendant lights for the kitchen, and haiks—large pieces of fabric worn by Berber women to protect themselves from heat and cold. Here, these traditional fabrics serve as curtains or bedspreads, warming the rooms with their summery colors. The kitchen backsplash was custom-made by Andalusian artisan Ceramica Los Arrayanes, inspired by a trip to Andalusia. You can almost imagine wandering through the streets of Granada while preparing an aioli or another local specialty in this beautifully crafted space!

Home sweet home

One feels right at home at Clotilde’s! And for good reason, the host has sprinkled small Provence-made touches here and there to immerse you in the local culture. In the bathroom, you’ll find products from Maison Clotilde, made by an artisanal soap factory. In the kitchen, there’s olive oil from Moulin Clos des Jeannons and rosemary honey, perfect for morning toast while listening to the bells of the nearby church!

After indulging in these Provencal pleasures, you can explore the city: stroll through the market, which stretches along the canals and is one of the largest and oldest in Provence, or visit the numerous antique shops. The city enjoys international renown thanks to its biannual antique fairs! For a taste of the true southern countryside, trade your city sandals for sneakers and venture into the wild: the cedar forest of the Luberon, the village of Bories, and many other spots are waiting to be discovered.
