A dream house.

Located in Les Baux-de-Provence, one of France’s most beautiful villages, it is a choice getaway for artists for a day (or forever), large families, and groups of friends. While many properties claim the ‘Maison d’Artistes’ title, few deliver on the promise as authentically as ‘L’Étoile des Baux,’ the inaugural property in the Iconic House collection. Joséphine Fossey has thoughtfully reimagined the entire décor, drawing inspiration from visits and interactions with local artists and craftspeople. Their work is projected into the essence of this unique space. At L’Étoile des Baux, guests step into the intimacy of a creative mind, entering what feels like the home of an imaginary artist. It’s an embodied, singular, and immersive environment.

The property reveals eight suites concealed in three buildings, including two incredible troglodyte rooms. A superb swimming pool, an open-air cinema, a theater of greenery, a gym, a bowling alley, a cabin reserved for children… All of these are set in a unique natural environment, making L’Étoile des Baux a host to an array of exceptional amenities.

The house also showcases one of the signature concepts found in each of the properties in the Iconic House Collection: L’Épicerie. A free-spirited, XXL interpretation of the hotel minibar, L’Épicerie showcases the finest in local treasures for spontaneous consumption (wines, savory and sweet groceries), as well as products from its partners such as Ruinart, French Bloom, an organic alcohol-free sparkling wine, and Meurisse, Belgium’s oldest chocolate brand. The co-founders’ favorite products.

The myth of the Artist House

The house is inspired by the myths surrounding artists’ homes, such as that of the sculptor Takis in Athens, Jorge Pardo in Mexico, or Jean Cocteau and the villa Santo Sospir (the tattooed villa) in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. La Maison creates a genuine dialogue between art, nature, decoration, and architecture. This approach lends new energy and soul to the property without ever falling into the trap of artistic elitism. After all, l’Étoile des Baux is, first and foremost, a vacation home. A dream, a fantasy. A truly unique place, as photogenic as it is pleasant to live in. It’s the perfect setting for groups of inspired friends, curious families, or creative souls sensitive to the local artistic scene (Arles and Avignon are only 30 minutes away).

Between inspirations, collections, everyday objects, souvenirs, materials, and tools for creating and working, the boundary between workshop and home becomes blurred. The evocation of these memories motivates an eclectic décor, summoning up different eras. Modernity coexists with meticulously sourced pieces – the culmination of long hours scouring the region’s flea markets, from Avignon to Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The color palette favors natural hues and warm colors mixed with bold, arty nods.

Art is Everywhere

With the help of Joséphine Fossey, Thibaud Elzière and Robin Michel unveil their own vision of the Maison d’artistes, giving the floor to artists and designers who will take over key spaces and masterpieces such as the library, bar, and outdoor areas. These include sculptures by Thalia Dalecky, photographs by Romain Laprade,
and paintings by Joseph Bayol, Arsène Welkin, and Caroline Beauzon – all three of whom live in Provence. Art is everywhere at La Maison: in the living room, with its artists’ studio where future guests can let their creativity run free; in the bedrooms, with photographs by Arles’ new guard and exhibition posters by the Yvon Lambert gallery; in the gym, with its intense monochrome; in the library, the brainchild of Henri Canivez, a young French designer, with its amused nod to Miró…
