A countryside escape
just an hour from Paris
At the heart of a lush garden stands the charming brick house.
After twenty years in Paris, Sophie and Florian began longing for a retreat in nature. Their search led them to the Eure Valley, an ideal location just an hour from Paris and close to Normandy’s beaches. The journey ended when Florian’s cousin found a charming, well-preserved 19th-century house that needed a bit of renovation. The couple didn’t hesitate—they purchased the property, moving into an adjoining building of Maison Crèvecœur, aptly named after its hamlet. They spent six months on renovations, and then the real work began for this creative duo: transforming and furnishing the house with their signature style.
A country house
with a Studio Sensible twist
With endless inspiration from their interior design studio, Sophie and Florian have crafted Maison Crèvecœur into a true design masterpiece, where every room invites reflection. “Drawing heavily from wabi-sabi, folk craftsmanship, and post-war design, we emphasize gesture, proportion, and material to create spaces that feel functional, timeless, and eclectic,” they explain.
The result is a delightful mix: Italian 1960s pieces, locally sourced vintage finds, like a 300-year-old carved table from a nearby château, and Italian cabinets adorned with Botticelli paintings that predate the house itself. Iconic design pieces like a Gae Aulenti coffee table and a Borsani sofa add to the distinctive character of each space. Sophie and Florian describe Maison Crèvecœur as embodying sprezzatura à la française—an effortless elegance with a refined touch. This is no ordinary home; it’s a truly unique retreat.

"It's a true setting as much as it is an interior."
Vacations
in the Eure Valley
Just steps away from Maison Crèvecœur, the Eure.
Vexin, Perche, Chevreuse Valley… There is no shortage of green getaways around Paris, but these places have long lost their status as well-kept secrets. Not so with the Eure Valley, already known among celebrities: Sonia Rykiel lived at the end of the street from Maison Crèvecœur, and the family of Marcel Pagnol resided in the village, as did Yves Montand and Simone Signoret.
One can easily understand what attracted such notable figures when discovering this pastoral haven, which is also very well connected to Paris. With abundant forests and fields, cultural tourism, cycling, and hiking, activities abound. Impressionism enthusiasts can visit Giverny, just 35 minutes by car, while others can stroll along the banks of the Eure or wander through the charming villages of Pacy-sur-Eure and Pont-de-l’Arche to admire the typical Norman architecture. And let’s not forget to savor the local specialties: camembert, livarot, teurgoule (rice pudding flavored with cinnamon), and cider, which can be found at a local market. The only thing that might sadden us is leaving Maison Crèvecœur until our next vacation!
