A seamless
renovation
Before becoming the proud owner of Maison Malmousque, Sonia was on the hunt for a beach house that evoked memories of her childhood home in Porquerolles. When she first visited the property in 2021, the Marseille native immediately saw its potential. “The house lacked harmony—four different types of flooring, a disorganized kitchen, and furniture placed without any real logic. The space needed rebalancing,” she recalls. In 2023, she undertook a full renovation in collaboration with interior designer Marie Lacube, a graduate of the Camondo School.
The goal? To create a space that embodies vacation, harmony, and comfort. “I wanted a home where you instantly feel good, where every detail is given the same care,” she explains. The original terracotta tiles were replaced with parquet flooring for added warmth, while horizontal lines were emphasized to enhance visual harmony. The interior layout was completely reimagined to maximize space and ensure a seamless flow between rooms.

Upstairs, the master suite evokes the charm of an artist’s studio.
"The Malmousque neighborhood, once a traditional fishing village, has retained its old-world charm with its narrow streets and quaint, often beautifully restored houses."
A refined and timeless
décor
The interior design of Maison Malmousque showcases a keen sense of style and meticulous attention to detail, blending modern elements with personal touches. “I incorporated some furniture from my vacation home in Porquerolles, including small dressers that are dear to me,” says Sonia. One of the standout features is the polished concrete staircase, celebrated for its sculptural elegance. “It looks like a piece of furniture—it’s so beautiful,” she says proudly.
In the bathrooms, the terracotta tiles from the ground floor were repurposed, adding a touch of authenticity to the clean, bright spaces. As for the master suite, it was designed as a true sanctuary, balancing privacy with an open connection to the terrace. “It’s my favorite space—I can retreat there when I need to or leave everything open to enjoy the light and the sea breeze,” says Sonia.

Living
in Malmousque
Just 200 meters from the sea and Maldormé beach, the house offers the perfect setting to soak in the beauty of Malmousque. Once a fishing village, this charming neighborhood has retained its character, with narrow streets and Mediterranean-style homes. “The location is exceptional—you’re in a peaceful spot yet just a stone’s throw from the vibrant energy of Marseille,” Sonia notes.
In the morning, we love starting the day with breakfast in the garden—a true green oasis in the heart of the city. Then, it’s just a three-minute stroll to the beach for a refreshing swim. Malmousque is full of hidden gems for those who appreciate great spots: Boujou Coffee Shop for a terrace coffee, Mademoiselle Wine for a selection of natural wines, and Cécile Food Club or L’eau à la bouche for a delicious takeaway meal. In the evening, Onassis restaurant delights with fresh seafood and a breathtaking sea view. Marseille, here we come!
