"The atmosphere here is gentle and warm. In spring, when the almond trees are in bloom, the garden becomes a delightful haven."
While walking the path of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, Christèle Ageorges and her companion Hubert Delance stumble upon an abandoned building: the Manufacture Royale de Lectoure. Without hesitation, they left Paris for a new life in Gers, embarking on the restoration of the Tannery. Designed by architect Pierre Racine in 1754, the tannery had various uses over time before being abandoned for about thirty years. It had been on the market for over a decade when the Parisian couple found it. After four years of renovation, the new owners welcomed the first travelers and walkers into the guest rooms and pilgrim lodge. More recently, they opened the holiday home, a beautiful 300 m² stone building with a private garden that can accommodate 15 guests.
New look
for a new life
While the exterior retained its former splendor, the interior had suffered the ravages of time. Armed with motivation and patience, Christèle—a former decorator and set designer—and her husband embarked on the renovation. Supported by architect François Muracciole, Studio Foltzer, and local artisans, they succeeded in restoring the Manufacture to its former magnificence.
After the guest rooms and the pilgrim lodge, the holiday home came to life in 2023. Sheltered from prying eyes by its private entrance and garden, this stone house features a ground floor with a living room, kitchen, and dining area. Upstairs, there are five double bedrooms and a dormitory with five beds, each with its own private bathroom. The rooms, all located upstairs and boasting large windows, are bathed in sunlight every day. The private access and garden allow travelers to enjoy moments of tranquility in complete privacy.

Behind the neo-classical light walls, Christèle and her husband have achieved a perfect balance, subtly nodding to the Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle path with a slight monastic spirit—featuring minimalist rooms, alcoves, and vaults—while also incorporating a cheerful palette of colors inspired by the lights and landscapes of Occitania. It was alongside the colorists of Maison Mercadier that Christèle envisioned a range of 20 unique shades, named Cypress, Tuscany, Earth, Turtledove, Lichen… The lime-washed walls, their powdery appearance, and the color combinations bring softness, warmth, and a distinct identity to each room.
You don’t need to be Sherlock Holmes to see that Christèle has long been involved in the decoration field: Elitis carpets, Maison de Vacances sofa, Moroccan zellige… The well-thought-out decor is a clever mix of designer pieces and vintage finds, resulting in a truly harmonious space!
Where no day
resembles the previous one
The bells of the Manufacture, which once marked the working day of the tanners, now ring for vacationers and pilgrims. While leather is no longer tanned here, guests can still get involved with cooking or baking classes, painting workshops, yoga sessions, or natural dyeing courses. Alternatively, they can explore the current exhibition or unwind with a massage and facial treatment.
The village of Lectoure is also worth a visit: a spa town, a former castle of the Counts of Armagnac transformed into an antique village, a market, and a Gothic cathedral. In this beautiful medieval town, the word ‘vacation’ takes on its full meaning!
