In southern Puglia, an old palazzo – transformed by the owner Matteo Schuerch, the architect Luca Baldazzi and Rebediani Scaccabarozzi Landscapes – designed to accommodate six to eight guests. The highlight? A charming garden with a stunning stone pool.

The ultimate palazzo

"Palazzo Edmondo embodies the true essence of Puglia."

Step inside Palazzo Edmondo to discover its true charm. Behind its thick stone walls lies a breathtaking 16th-century residence designed to accommodate six guests (or up to eight if two are children). Nestled in the picturesque village of Monteroni di Lecce, just a stone’s throw from the “Florence of Puglia,” this enchanting retreat is the perfect spot to enjoy delicious pasta while taking in the elegance of Baroque architecture.

After centuries of neglect, Palazzo Edmondo has been revived by Matteo Schuerch, a Swiss entrepreneur, art collector, and architecture enthusiast. With the expertise of Studio Luca Baldazzi, he transformed the historic “palace” into a true masterpiece. Now part of the Moroseta Homes collection, Palazzo Edmondo joins a selection of carefully curated local villas, meticulously restored to offer guests top-tier services and an unforgettable stay.

Honoring
the past

Palazzo Edmondo has undergone a meticulous restoration, carefully reviving its 16th-century splendor while seamlessly integrating elements of contemporary design. The three-year project, led by Studio Luca Baldazzi, was guided by the owner’s clear vision: to honor the building’s roots while securing its future.

With the expertise of local artisans – Cardinale Concepts for the architectural finishes, Arte Ippolito for the handmade sinks, the carpenter & woodworker Alessandra Alba, to name a few – and advanced restoration techniques, every stone, beam, and corner was thoughtfully restored to return the palace to its former glory.

From the moment you step inside, you’re captivated by the soaring ceilings adorned with frescoes that rise up to eight meters, the meticulously restored ancient floors, and the pointed arches that lend the spaces a distinctive and timeless charm.

A haven
of nature

The crown jewel of Palazzo Edmondo is, without a doubt, its garden, crafted by the Milanese landscapers Rebediani Scaccabarozzi Landscapes. Drawing inspiration from the Roman frescoes of Villa Livia—the opulent home of Livia, Emperor Augustus’s third wife—this lush retreat blends historical vegetation with carefully selected ancient bulbs. The result? A tranquil sanctuary, perfect for dreaming of dinners under the stars.

Nearby, a pool shaded by trees is framed by 17th-century stone colonnades, creating a serene space where peace and quiet prevail. Every detail of the garden invites reflection, striking a perfect harmony between nature and architecture. Time here feels beautifully spent, accompanied by the gentle toll of the nearby church bell and the invigorating scent of citrus in the air.

Available exclusively as a vacation rental, Palazzo Edmondo, part of the Moroseta Homes collection, is a heartfelt tribute to local tradition. Guests are treated to a wide range of services designed for ultimate relaxation: a seasonal breakfast, both sweet and savory, delivered each morning; the option of a private chef (the fully equipped kitchen is ready to impress); delivery of Puglia’s abundant local delicacies; as well as organized activities, cooking classes, massages, and more.

Feeling adventurous? Explore the area by wandering through the lively stalls of a local market and sampling specialties like pane di Altamura—a traditional bread with a golden crust and soft crumb—creamy burrata, or fave e cicoria, a flavorful fava bean purée served with wild chicory leaves. Visit a charming coastal village like San Cataldo, take a refreshing dip in the Mediterranean, and return to savor the serene beauty of life in the palazzo.
