"We named the estate Tomette Singulière because on some of the terracotta tiles, you can see small paw prints left by cats before the clay dried."
Born in Lyon and Bourg-en-Bresse, the delighted owners of Tomette Singulière are intimately familiar with Southern Burgundy – home to towns like Chalon-sur-Saône and Mâcon. Following careers in communication and hospitality in Paris, they set out to find a country house and discovered this one-hectare estate just an hour from Lyon. The moment they uncovered the true character of the 19th-century property, hidden beneath layers of plaster, they were captivated and knew they had found their perfect haven.
As a fun fact, this estate, built in 1850, was once occupied by a forward-thinking notary who proudly owned Saône-et-Loire’s first car! Today, after careful renovation of the living spaces, the estate offers a host of amenities: a sparkling pool, a soothing sauna, a petanque court, and a charming vegetable garden. Ample attractions to keep all holidaymakers thoroughly entertained!
The slow life,
Burgundy style
We sneak under the beams to discover all the spaces of Tomette Singulière.
“I’ve always wanted a characterful stone country house.” Emeric’s dream has now come true! After purchasing the estate, he and Laura, who designed the renovation plans, set about revitalizing it. Burgundy oak hardwood floors and glass partitions crafted by a local artisan highlight the region’s craftsmanship.
From 2019 to 2023, each building underwent a complete transformation. The barn’s sand floor was replaced with beautiful solid wood flooring from the region. Large windows were added to bring in modernity and, most importantly, natural light. Bathrooms and bedrooms were created to provide every possible comfort for guests.
Minimalism,
country house edition
Next step? Furnishing these freshly revamped buildings. Once again, everything was done tastefully! Over the years, flea markets and antique shops were scoured, and the finest pieces of furniture were carefully selected. The style of the house remains minimalist, providing a sense of serenity and calm that is particularly appreciated. Nothing is excessive!
A few touches of modernity break the traditional image of a typical country house. Think Nedgis lighting, Fermliving armchairs, Fermob garden furniture… Even the dining table and pieces were carefully chosen: local ceramics from Minuit Céramique and Emeric’s grandmother’s tableware. These vintage touches make Tomette Singulière feel like home!
A Scandinavian touch brought by light wood furniture.
"Guests often describe the house as a 'little haven of peace,' which we love; that's exactly what we aimed to create here."
A picturesque postcard landscape, welcome to Les Noyers.
Burgundy wins us over!
Breakfast consisting of homemade pastries and local bread.
Burgundians one day, Burgundians forever! It’s no surprise that Laura and Emeric, besides being wine enthusiasts, are also connoisseurs of fine cuisine. To share the region’s culinary delights with their guests, they organize wine tastings (exclusively biodynamically grown) accompanied by local gougeres. Having become true experts of the area, they know all the best spots: vineyards, restaurants, and scenic routes—all best explored by bicycle—electric ones available for rent at the house.
Before setting out to explore, guests can indulge in a homemade breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also available upon request! As a bonus, the owners of Tomette Singulière are dedicated to environmental stewardship. They prioritize local, organic, and homemade products, maintain an organic garden, use Burgundy bedding, and furnish with Linvosges organic cotton bedding (and minimal screens!).
Life is sweet in Southern Burgundy, especially under such wonderful conditions!
