New life
in the countryside

Before becoming the proud owner of Maisons Cambrousse, Alice de Vanssay lived and worked in the city for 20 years. Tired of the bustling but exhausting city life, she embarked on a new chapter in 2023 in Eure-et-Loir, specifically in Ouerre, a charming village near the Regional Natural Park of the Upper Chevreuse Valley. Here, Alice fell in love with an estate consisting of two typical local longhouses, now known as Maisons Cambrousse.

She began renovating the properties, carefully preserving their character with wooden beams, terracotta tiles, and bricks. After a thorough refurbishment, she added bedrooms and bathrooms, along with a pool and sauna, to ensure the best possible accommodation for guests. The spacious layout and thoughtful design are particularly appreciated, allowing large groups to gather comfortably without feeling crowded.

Alice initially envisioned a house with a 1970s ambiance, but this idea has since evolved while still featuring some nods to that era: the Dareels Chopin sofas in the living room, the colorful painting above the fireplace, and the rectangular wooden bookcase. “It’s what one imagines of a country house, with a slight twist because I didn’t want it to be too traditional.” This unique touch is reflected in the decor, sourced locally or brought back in suitcases from trips to Essaouira, like the large hanging lights adorning the bedrooms and the pottery in the garden. Design pieces have also made their way in, such as Danish Ferm Living armchairs.

Drawing inspiration from various eras and styles gives Maisons Cambrousse character and a distinctive identity, while ensuring guests enjoy all the comforts expected on vacation: Le Matelas Français bedding, beautiful linens, and a fully equipped kitchen. As Alice puts it, “It’s a gentle blend of authenticity, simplicity, and comfort.” That says it all!

"It's the perfect country house for Parisians looking to escape the city without going too far."

Spending your vacation in a beautiful place is one thing. Being able to have meals delivered by a local caterer, participate in a wine tasting, or treat yourself to a massage is another! All these joyful activities are possible at Maisons Cambrousse. For guests who prefer to explore, the surrounding area promises delightful experiences.

Enjoy products from Ferme d’Orvilliers, stroll through woods and fields, or have an aperitif by the pool while watching the sunset. That’s what we love here—the luxury of being in the countryside (and what a countryside it is!), just under an hour from capital. Ah… charming houses close to Paris, we can’t get enough of them!
