Just a stone’s throw from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a farmhouse designed by Alexandre Lafourcade hidden in the heart of an immense lush garden – with a swimming pool, vegetable garden, orangery, tea house, and fountain – to spend the summer indoors-outdoors in a renewed Provençal-style property.

In Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, a mas with a castle-like ambiance, perfect for living the good life.

"We wanted to create a place of peace, one that soothes the soul. Visitors often tell us they feel rejuvenated and that the place exudes very good energy."

Mas le Gaudre, named after the ‘little stream’ that runs through the property, is a true family affair. It belongs to Alexandre, a renowned self-taught architect, and Céline Lafourcade, who first renovated the Mas to create a home for gathering their loved ones, accommodating no less than 16 beds.

This upscale family project was meticulously designed, from the entrance of the property – where you’ll find a full-scale vegetable garden – to the decoration (handled by Céline’s daughter) that takes a modern twist on the Provençal ambiance – and even includes a small tea house for relaxation in the garden. Follow along the stream, pass through the small gate, and you’re at the starting point of the tour!

The attention to detail

Vaulted rooms, light stones, warm-colored tiles, and hardwood floors perfect for barefoot strolls – Mas le Gaudre embodies the dreamy Provençal vacation home! Every corner of the property has been meticulously renovated, showcasing impeccable finishes and high-quality materials.

The decoration was entrusted to Juliette, Céline Lafourcade’s daughter. Her guiding principle for designing the Mas’s rooms? The bathroom tiles! Inspired by this typically Provençal material, she created rooms with strong identities, accentuated by warm colors and bold patterns, such as Pierre Frey curtains. The result is a skillful blend of contemporary pieces—like Togo armchairs from Ligne Roset—and works by young local artists alongside family-owned paintings and furniture. The verdict? You feel right at home here and won’t want to leave, even after summer’s end!

The gardens:
living spaces in themselves

The gardens, a true extension of the house, were envisioned by artist gardener Dominique Lafourcade, Alexandre’s mother. She also designed the Japanese tea house, surrounded by bamboo, where traditional tea ceremonies can be organized to add a touch of diversity to your gardening sessions. Led by Keiko, an expert in the field, it’s a timeless moment, a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

The different garden spaces are composed of local plants – one can sense the fragrance of lavender – stylized in unexpected ways: here and there, rosemary or thyme is trimmed like boxwood in a French garden style. A well-stocked vegetable garden and a chicken coop allow for meals with an extremely short food mile! A chef can even be called to whip up some delicious local dishes.

A day – Provençal style

The morning might start with a visit to the Terre & Blé bakery, highly recommended by Céline and her daughter. After stocking up on pastries, the day unfolds: some enjoy the pool, others play games in the dedicated room for the little ones, or take a stroll before gathering in Céline’s favorite room—the kitchen! “This room invites gathering, cooking, and togetherness. In the summer, it stays pleasantly cool, and in the winter, it’s warm thanks to the two fireplaces.”As the sun sets, everyone can gather to end the day peacefully. Enjoy an aperitif in the garden while listening to the cicadas, and prepare a local dish such as tian or bouillabaisse. It all starts again the next day for a truly Provençal summer!
