The Cabanon des Goudes

In the fishing village of Les Goudes, a feel-good Marseille getaway

The Cabanon des Goudes, a pint-sized version of Marseille’s seaside house, is a highly vibrant project led by the dynamic duo of the creative studio WEAREMB. With its carefree spirit and guaranteed disconnect, it promises a refreshing escape within the Calanques National Park.

In the fishing village of Les Goudes, a feel-good Marseille getaway

"At Les Goudes, what we love most are the Goudois and their legendary smiles."

A love letter to idleness and the Mediterranean art of living, Les Goudes – one of the most charming neighborhoods in Marseille for a holiday – provides one of the most serene and soothing seaside experiences Marseille has to offer. Yet, it doesn’t compromise the carefree spirit and camaraderie of the South! A cheerful anchor point where Marine de Bouchony and Camille de Laurens – co-founder of the WEAREMB agency – have settled in to open their duo of charming cottages for rent: The Cabanon des Goudes.

Two feel-good homes, both tucked away on Rue du Louvre – specifically at numbers 29 and 32. The first one is 40 m², designed to host three guests, while the second is 54 m² with two bedrooms and an open living space. In the background, the lively buzz of the neighborhood, the waves, and the unmistakable call for a drink. Care for some pastis?

No doubt here,
Life is Goudes

When Camille de Laurens speaks about Les Goudes, she first mentions its people: “To get here, we often take a taxi. It’s not unusual for the driver to share personal anecdotes along the way—stories of childhood, family, fishing with friends, outdoor meals, and cabins passed down through generations…”

This sets the tone: Les Goudes epitomizes southern life at its finest. Picture endless aperitifs, hammock naps, and reading by the water—what many would consider the quintessence of vacation. Such charm is more than enough to entice anyone to experience this unique place for themselves, in this quaint house that almost seems to float… like a boat.

A heartfelt address tucked away in this little semi-pedestrian alley, bustling in the summer yet blissfully serene in the off-season. According to the hostess, the area is rich with inspiration, making it the perfect spot to fully enjoy the mild climate and soak in the local ambiance.

"We stroll through the calanques in winter, we bask on a rock in spring, we savor grilled fish in summer. And in autumn? A refreshing dip in the sea!"

Pop colors + Mediterranean inspiration
= the winning combo for these fisherman’s cabins

The Cabanon des Goudes wouldn’t be what they are without their architectural simplicity and nods to the Provençal style. Terracotta tiles on the floor, beaded curtains, and even second-hand crockery: the duo from the M/B agency have poured their hearts into bringing a Mediterranean inspiration – sometimes a bit rustic – to these two charming retreats… all balanced out by the pop, contrasting colors beloved by the creative studio! In the kitchen backsplash of cabanon #1, there’s a bold meadow green, and a tomato red in #2. A shade enhanced by the green gingham and the white-and-sunshine-yellow stripes of the curtain that hides – just below – the second-hand tableware. Playful touches, no doubt about it!

But all while optimizing these small spaces to the fullest. A masonry bench built right into the living room wall, a dual-purpose sofa – both a seat in the living room and an armchair in the dining area –: clever tricks are everywhere here. Just like the attention to signature pieces that adorn the little house’s nooks: a Haos stool and lamp, or a decorative plate by Marion Maïlender. Simple yet stylish!

The sensation
of being on a Greek island

With its intimate harbor and deep blue waters, Les Goudes subtly plays with our emotions.

With its intimate harbor and deep blue waters, Les Goudes subtly plays with our emotions.

Greek island or Marseille port? The line blurs in front of this captivating seascape. Is that the shuttle from Les Goudes ferrying vacationers to Pointe-Rouge or the Old Port? Or perhaps it’s the serpentine, cliff-hugging road that brings visitors here by car, playing tricks on our senses? Either way, the distinction hardly matters.

Wherever the eye lands, the illusion of being on an archipelago is ever-present. This vibrant and unique sensation of standing at the edge of the world, yet within the bounds of the metropolis, is amplified by sunsets that seem to pose the question: will you return? To which the only response is: of course!
