"We wanted to preserve that spirit of a little seaside getaway, perfect for weekend escapes, just like many 'cabanoniers' do."
Perched along the Mediterranean, Marseille is home to a scattering of traditional fisherman’s cabins—modest homes with simple, functional architecture. One of the most picturesque spots to find them is Les Goudes, a charming neighborhood in the Phocean city with an authentic village feel. Here, young parents and sea lovers Hugo and Manon discovered their dream retreat: Le Cabanon Blanc, an 80 m² whitewashed cottage with three double bedrooms and a sun-kissed terrace.
Once a humble fisherman’s cabin, this beautifully renovated gem now offers a serene escape in the heart of Les Goudes. Nestled on a peaceful little square with its own private parking spot, Le Cabanon Blanc is the perfect base for exploring the Calanques National Park and enjoying the sea, just 50 meters away. With space for up to six guests, it’s a sun-drenched retreat where sea breezes and coastal charm come together for an unforgettable getaway.
A true
Marseille paradise
The best spot for a nap? The terrace bench.
After purchasing Le Cabanon Blanc in 2022, Manon and Hugo set out to renovate it while preserving its authentic fisherman’s cabin charm. “These cabins were originally simple shelters for storing fishing gear. Over time, they became lived-in homes, and today they offer modern comforts. We wanted to maintain that simplicity and the modest spirit of the original Marseille cabin,” explains Manon.
The transformation included replacing old windows, refreshing the paint, and adding wooden floors to give the space a fresh, clean look — now entirely white! The result is a bright, airy retreat with a subtle hint of Greek island charm, much to the delight of its guests.
A Mediterranean
cabin
Embracing natural materials like wood, rattan, and linen—paired with a soothing white palette—Le Cabanon Blanc embodies simplicity and understated elegance. The interiors and terrace reflect this same approach, with thoughtful touches such as regional ceramics and a classic trestle table. The authentic spirit of the original fisherman’s cabin is preserved, but with an added layer of modern comfort.
Throughout the space, subtle nods to the Mediterranean can be found: rattan light fixtures inspired by traditional fishing traps, striped fabrics in the living room and on the outdoor bench reminiscent of beach towels and parasols. The result? A vacation home where relaxation feels effortless, blending charm and comfort in every detail.
Everywhere, benches to relax on.
Family
spirit
A cabin designed for both adults and kids!
As young parents, Manon and Hugo thoughtfully designed Le Cabanon Blanc to be as practical as it is enjoyable for families with young children. With features like a child safety gate at the top of the stairs and a crib available on request, it’s a truly kid-friendly holiday home. Guests can pack light, as the cabin comes equipped with toys, beach games, and inflatables—everything needed for a carefree family vacation.
Nestled away from the hustle and bustle of downtown Marseille, Les Goudes is an ideal spot for families. Here, little ones can walk to the beach, enjoy a leisurely ice cream, splash in the sea, and head back for bath time—this time, without the saltwater.
