"Everyone who comes on vacation to discover Perche ends up wanting to find a home there."
When Isabelle first set her eyes on this 18th-century building, it was love at first sight! Despite its raw state, the stone and brick longhouse, with its quintessential Percheron charm, held immense potential. Coming from a family of DIY enthusiasts, Isabelle envisioned its possibilities and, along with her husband Reza, became its proud owner.
After three years of meticulous renovation, the property has transformed into a beautiful countryside home with all modern comforts, surrounded by pastures in a typical Percheron bocage landscape. It’s perfect for a getaway for seven guests, whether to explore Perche, watch the cows, or take a nap in the shade of a linden tree…
The countryside home
made in Perche
With its dormer windows, old white stone fireplace, terracotta tiles, and lime-plastered walls, the Percheron building already had plenty of charm. Original materials like terracotta tiles, stone, brick, and oak beams were preserved and enhanced with polished concrete and a custom wrought-iron staircase crafted by a local artisan. “A happy marriage,” as Isabelle describes it. Another advantage? “A beautiful brightness, thanks to the large openings, including the kitchen window that looks out over the pastures, with its cows and horses, like a painting by Rosa Bonheur.”
The patient—three years!—renovation work has enhanced the old part of the house while adding “a touch of soul where Japanese wabi-sabi meets the demand for everyday comfort.” In Japanese, wabi refers to finding perfection in imperfection, harmony, and the appreciation of simple pleasures. This philosophy is fully realized here; the subtle “imperfections” of the materials have been preserved to maintain the house’s identity, allowing them to age gracefully over time.
Amidst the trees, Une Maison dans le Perche emerges.

The furniture, a mix of vintage and country styles.
Originally from the south of France, Isabelle has become a true Percheronne by adoption and has even written books about local flea markets! With her extensive knowledge, she scoured local garage sales to furnish Une Maison dans le Perche.
Her efforts were well rewarded: a minimalist selection of treasures from nearby villages, cherished finds from antique shops, and recent vintage acquisitions, all curated to follow a bucolic theme. The result is the perfect pastoral image of a countryside home—authentic and charming, yet comfortably modern. The setup includes Epeda bedding, cotton and linen bed linens, and all the modern appliances one could need.
As soon as you step out of the house, you’re in the heart of nature.
Jump into Perche
Situated in the heart of the Perche Regional Natural Park, the house serves as an ideal starting point to explore the trails of the Percheron bocage. It’s close to the iconic towns of Bellême, Nogent-le-Rotrou, and Mortagne-au-Perche, making visits to their historic centers a must. The region offers an array of local delights: mushroom foraging, hot air balloon rides, hiking, kayaking, numerous flea markets and antique fairs, cycling, and visits to gardens and castles.
Many travelers find joy in simply staying at the house. Wander through the 5,000m² wild garden, where biodiversity flourishes, set up a lounge chair, and listen to the buzzing insects and singing birds. You can even book a massage or a yoga class and unwind… In winter, the ambiance becomes cozier—snuggle by the stove for a card game and savor local treats like cider and goose rillettes. It’s all about the slow life, enjoying simple pleasures in an enchanting setting.
